2/11/09 Healthy San Francisco’s reach continues to grow – Heather Knight, John Coté, Erin Allday, SFgate.com
San Francisco’s universal health care program started in 2007 as strictly for the very poor and has been gradually expanded in hopes of eventually covering all of the city’s uninsured.
On Tuesday, Healthy San Francisco was expanded again to include people making up to 500 percent of the federal poverty level. That’s just over $54,000 for one person and just over $110,000 for a family of four.
Granted, that kind of money doesn’t go far in San Francisco, but it’s safely in the middle class.
